Guys,
I just bought a new 899 HD and while looking at all the features sitting at my desk in the Demo mode, I noticed in split screen 200/83 mode there was no disaplayed ottom data for the 83kh side. I designated the 83kh transducer only and I got a blank screen. I am real familiar with all the menu screens because I have a HB Matrix 97, but do you think the software load at the factory left out the file for the 83kh demo data? This new unit has the latest software version. and everything else in the demo mode works as it should, but nothing but a blank screen for the 83kh side. Puzzling to say the least. Anybody else have this weirdo thing happen? Fish icon ID for 83kh wont work either.

Jeff,
There is no simulated 83kHz sonar data in the Simulator as it was not recorded along with the other sonar data; so nothing is weird or wrong with your unit. If you have the latest software version in your 899ci HD Si unit (version 7.460), it will show the 83kHz Fish ID+ Symbols but it has to have sonar data to do so.

Greg, Is that something that was planned by Humminbird? It would seem to me to complete the demo mode for the new user, the demo mode shoudl have simulated views and data for the 83KhZ with all the same things as the 200KhZ side does. My Matrix 97 has a great demo mode with a simulated views for both 83khz and the 200 khz. It seems a little weird from a marketing standpoint to have a demo mode which is only half complete?.....

The Simulator data for most of the larger units, like the 899, is really a sonar recording. A sonar recording only records the sonar data that is turned on and in this case the 83kHz sonar was not turned on and therefore it was not recorded. I can’t remember if DougV (they guy who made the sonar recordings) said that this was by accident or design though I would lean towards design so that it would take up less memory.

Greg, I understand now and it was good a honest answer. 2nd Question. How big or small of a memory card can the 899 handle for data storage in the second card slot? I looked everwhere and couldn't find that information and didn't think it was that important to bother a Tech on the phone. oops...I searched and found it greg.....32gb.

That is correct Jeff. Our units can use an MMC, SD(SC) or SDHC type memory cards, so they can use up to a 32GB type memory card.
