Title: 898c SI/859c DI Transducer Config
Post by: RetroActv on April 05, 2015, 11:43:33 PM
I have an 898c SI at the console and picked up an 859c DI for the bow.  Question on transducers - If I run both units networked, can I add the DI transducer to the back and select with each unit which transducer to use for which scenario (2D and DI), to eliminate crosstalk?  I believe the 200 runs on both transducers at all times, but can you select the units to use the same transducer for 2D and not have the other one ping, for example?

It could look like this:
898c uses SI transducer for 2D and SI, but 859 transducer for DI.
859c uses SI transducer for 2D, but 859 transducer for DI.

Or would it be better to keep just the SI transducer installed and only use 2D and SI on the 859? In saying that, I believe the 859 will display the SI with the latest software since the units are networked.

Or, if someone has a better idea, I'm all ears.

Thanks.

No, the 898 unit will not be able to use the sonar from the DI transducer.  If it were an 899 model unit it could.
The 859 can display the 2D and Si sonar data from the 898’s transducer.

If I were fishing at the bow I would want to use a transducer that was mounted at the bow so that I could see what was under me, not 20 feet behind me off the transom.

Thanks for the email, Greg.  I agree on having the transducer up front.  The problem is with the Ipilot on the trolling motor.  I like to use the anchor lock, and with the cord for the transducer hanging out (I have a V2 motor) I imagine it'll end up getting cut eventually as the motor changes direction.

Perhaps what I'll do is have a single transducer on the transom (the SI transducer) and have both units use that, understanding I'll lose DI on the bow unit when the trolling motor wire is disconnected.  Will that work?

Yes it will but you could do that with a less expensive 859ci HD model unit.
