I have an 1197c and have been having problems with the charts not loading. The nav map shows the boat and correct location as far as GPS goes, but the charts don't load into the map which is white with no details. There is text in the top right of the screen saying "Loading Charts" but nothing loads. I have updated to the latest software 6.600, but nothing has changed. Doe any one have any ideas what may be going on??

Welcome to the Humminbird Side imaging Forums gjwest.
No suggestions other than to try another map card in your unit and try your map card in a different unit.
What map card are you using?
-
Thanks for the reply.
No map card in use, just trying to load the built in charts, but nothing loads.
-
Look at the chart select option under the chart tab. Auto should work. Reset defaults will set auto also

Are you running the latest available version of software in your 1197 unit?
I would try resetting the menus back to the factory defaults. If this continues, you will need to contact your local retailer about getting service work done to your 1197 unit.
Is this an International version unit (1197cX Si) or a U.S./Domestic version (1197c Si)?
-
Thanks for the response,
I have installed the latest software in hope that that would fix it but no change. I have reset all of the menus with no effect. The model is the 1197cX Si version. I'm currently looking for a local retailer to get the unit checked out.

Is this the 1197c SI NVB Combo ...??
Have you tried zooming out and zooming back in on a different area of the lake ... Or maybe even a different lake ...
If there's no map data for that area ... The area will show blank ...
I'm not sure how this continuous "Loading Maps" I showing if there is no map card in the unit ...
I don't think this notification would show in a NVB model (if yours is a NVB model) ...

Our model is 1197cX Si. I'm not sure what NVB stands for. We use ours in saltwater primarily in estuarine and coastal work, in NSW Australia. We also have a 987c which loads and shows maps fine for our location. I have tried zooming in and out and moving to other locations but still no maps get displayed.

It sounds like the map data or the internal map memory device has failed somehow. You will need to get it into servicing to get it fixed.

Even though the map card worked in a different unit .... the card contacts could have some oxidation which makes it intermittent.
Try cleaning the gold contacts on the map chip ..... just use a soft pencil eraser and gently clean them and see if that makes any difference......Just rub gently til the shine returns..... This has worked for me and others I have recommended it to.

His post #2 indicates he is not using a map card ...
Thanks for the reply.
No map card in use, just trying to load the built in charts, but nothing loads.
So he is either trying to load the NVB maps (which he indicates he doesn't have) ... Unimap internal maps (I think some of the older 1197's had Unimap) ... Or the Contour XD internal map ...
And we still haven't determined which ...
I don't recall my 1197 saying "Loading Charts" on power up without an installed map card ...
I will have to check ...

My money is on an internal failure of some sort but just to eliminate one more thing... gjwest make sure that you have no map card or other SD card in the unit when this happens.
-
Thanks for all for you suggestions.
I don't have any map card in the unit, so I'm only trying to use the built in chart. When I set the view to chart or birds eye I get a map screen that is white with no coastline or anything other feature other than the grid displayed. In the top right of the screen is the text "Loading Charts" I have left it running for a while nothing loads, I have tried different locations still no chart. I'm guessing that somehow the internal maps have been corrupted or there is some other internal problem preventing the loading of the charts. I'm in the process of finding a local dealer to get it looked, and will report back with the outcome. Thanks

Have you tried a mapping card to see what you get?
-
No, unfortunately we don't have any, I was going to but one but am not willing to invest in one if there is an inherent problem with the unit that prevents it from loading any maps. Hopefully I can get the unit fixed.
-
I just powered on my 1197 with no cards in the slot ...
While it did take a minute or so to find the satellites from my garage ... I get no "Loading Charts" popup anywhere in any view ...
Even powering off the unit and re-powering on I cannot get a "Loading Charts" popup until I actually stick the map card in the unit ...
gjwest ... Can you see if the Main tabbed menu system is showing a Chart tab ...??
And if it is showing a Chart tab ... Cursor down to the "Chart Select" menu until it is highlighted white ...
Once it is highlighted ... Is there any option to cursor right or left ... Or is "Auto" the only selection ...??
Rickie

Rickie, the only option I have for Chart Select is "Auto"
