I have a 798ci hd si that I bought in 2011. I updated the software when I first installed it. it has worked great until I decided to run a software update a few days ago. I have the shoot through transducer on the splitter cable. it looks like the update disabled my second transducer. DI and SI work fine. it just flashes 1.6' depth reading and will not adjust the auto max depth. is there a place to get old firmware? is there some setting that I missed that will turn my second transducer back on?
thanks,
dan

Check the connections on both ends of the "Y" cable. It sounds like the transducer has been disconnected. Bob

This site also has in the download tab older software for downloading. I would caution you to search the forum for software updates or back levels and follow the advise for going back level. And the procedure for installing any software. The are issues with installing code especially if you do not follow the suggested sequences.
It sounds like you may be familiar with the steps for doing so...

That woud be a good first step ..... Also, did you reset defaults AFTER you did the update? I have not heard of a software update causing the 2D to be lost.
You could also disconnect the y cable altogether and connect your SI transducer directly to the unit and see what you get.....it could be a problem with the shoot thru transducer.

I did "reset to defaults" before and after the update. its an in-dash, console mount. moving transducer cables isn't exactly easy. I'll have to try that the next time I have it on the lake. it seems odd that it has worked for 3 years and went bad or came loose at the same time I did an update. this was the first time I updated this unit since I installed it in 06/2011. the software was really old. I was really just hoping to make it work with the navionics card that came with the 859 I just bought to go on the bow. it doesn't.
I've always been able to hear the bilge transducer clicking with the boat sitting in the garage. I'll try moving cables around.
on the download page, there is no section for 798ci hd si. would I use the old files from the 798 ci hd?
thanks for your help.

Probably would not install software with a different description than what you have. I should have checked our download page before posting to you.. chuck
Once in a while you can call customer support and they will ship you a down level code. You will have to talk nice to them and get them to understand your need... Mostly they only like to support the latest code and issues...

Your testing isn't valid if you are testing it in the garage......You need to test on the water

I can tell if the transducer is pinging in the garage. I wont know for a fact that it is working. as of now, its not pinging in the garage and not working on the water. ...a ping would be a step in the right direction.

just got home from work and turned it on. it is now pinging in the garage. i'll do more testing as soon as I can get to the water.

There could be some software changes that change the way the unit pings ..... If the unit doesn't get a bottom return, the pinging is slowed down a LOT since it waits a long time in case the bottom is very deep.
Testing on the water is definitely the way to go
