What a great option if you have one of the few select units that will operate these maps. I guess this is the part that my 998 starts becoming obsolete....
Frustrating

MAYBE Matt, they are going to release v 7.460 for that one also, I don't know if that & Jigging Mode will be part of the  update (Mid Feb.), but it makes sense that HB can have more sales from it....

I have 2 questions
1) will I need to update my 898 software ver. 6.4 I think I need to verify software
2) will additional maps be available as customer request increase for other lakes

There are detailed instructions here:   https://chartselect.humminbird.com/docs/ChartSelect_User_Guide_532362-1_A.PDF

A 2G or larger SD card has to be formatted FAT32 and then "encrypted" in a Humminbird unit.  This encryption requires the 7.460 software in the core units.  This update is currently only available for the xx9 series units, but is supposed to be released for the xx8 series units in Feb.

The lake maps that are available is the source of some frustration........Lakemaster needs to get into a higher gear getting the mapping done.  Some areas are good, but there are entire states with no maps available.

I would think the more requests they get for a certain lake.....The more likely they are to get it done.

All in all......more choices is a good thing.

thank sfw, I hope they make it available for my unit. Three of my home lakes are available. Do you need a Lakemaster chip to run these maps or just the new software version and the formated chip?

All you really need is a 2G SD card that has the encryption done on it.

Doug over at BBC says you can do the encryption in another unit......and then the chip will be usable in any unit that can utilize the Lakemaster chip......even without that unit being upgraded.

Guess we all have to make friends with someone who has the 7.460 software on their unit :)

I'm running an i-Pilot system Bob, actually I don't think I want a 360 - I do a lot of trolling and the really slow or stationary stuff I can us the SI to "fake it" for much of what I want to do but just turning the motor like that $500 thing the "L" company has tried to hard to make appear similar...LOL

I have already purchased one map from ChartSelect.   I have two Lakemaster chips -- one doesn't have a HD map for one lake I had a tournament on, so I bought the HD map for that lake.   I had to run it on my 899 though.   I don't believe it will run on my 1198 or 1197.

$9.95 was sure cheaper than buying a new HD lakemaster chip!

It is supposed to run on any unit that supports Lakemaster.......You just have to use the 899 to encrypt it.....Please give it a try in you other units when you get a chance and let us know.
