Title: Three transducers, all with Temperature
Post by: Colt45 on January 14, 2015, 06:31:26 PM
Have a 998Csi and have to reconfigure the transducers.  Keel mounted thru-hull got damaged so replacing it and adding a 2nd side image w/Y cable.  Question is all three of these units have built in temp.  What temp will the display show?  Will it average them or add them  :)?  How does it know?

Plan to mount the two SI units just above the bottom of the boat so they are out of the water when running to avoid that &%^@? Florida Bay grass.  Will running them "out of the water" cause any issues?

(2) XHS 9 HDSI 180 T  (one port, one stbd)
(1) Y cable AS-SILR-Y
(1) XNT 9 20 T 83/200 khz

Sure hope I ordered the right stuff...

The SI "Y" cable hooks to both SI transducers that cable in turn hooks to the 2D "Y" cable that will only allow the temp sensor from the 2D ducer to get to the unit. Bob
Sorry for the confusion on my part. The shoot through will be inside so water temp can't come from there! However with both SI ducers out of the water on plane you won't have a temp probe in the water at speed.

So having the two SI ducers out of the water when on plane will cause no problems?  I had always heard running one out of the water would damage the unit but I gotta find some way to avoid that dang grass.

That is a common installation on step hulls(most bass boats)

Sorry for the late reply here but…

The XNT-9-20-T transducer is for transom mounting.  You stated that you were replacing a “Keel mounted thru-hull”.  I hope your intention was to order and install a transom mounted type transducer.  If it is, than you could have saved a few dollars by purchasing the non-temperature XNT-9-20 (no “T” in the part name) transducer.
A true Thru-Hull transducer (transducer is mounted under the hull via a stem that goes up through the hull) would be either the XTH-9-20 (bronze Thru-Hull) or the XTH-9-20-P (Plastic Thru-Hull).
If instead you were going to mount a transducer inside-the-hull you would need the XP-9-20 transducer (no temperature).

When using the AS-Si-DB-Y cable; the temperature will always come from the Si transducer.
When using the As-Si-LR-Y cable; the temperature will always come from the Starboard Si transducer.
So, when using both in combination the temperature will be coming from the starboard side Si transducer.
