Seems to be getting dim in its old age, can this be repaired or upgraded?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums ThomS.

The 1197 units can still be repaired according to the Humminbird web site, so they should be able to fix the backlight but you best call ahead to be sure: 1-800-633-1468.

There is no upgrading the backlight.
