Title: 798CXI HD SI Menu's
Post by: geemul on September 16, 2014, 07:15:28 AM
I have two of the above sounders,

One of them has the following menu's,
Alarms
Nav
Chart
Setup
Views
Accessories

The other has these menu's,
Alarms
Setup
Views
Accessories

Basically the second one has no Nav or Chart menu's.

They both have 7.120 firmware and they both used to be the same in the menu's.

They have both had their defaults restored.

Any ideas on why the second one has managed to lose those menu's?

Thanks,
Geoff

The unit is not recognizing the GPS antenna connection to the satillites ...therefore no views relating to GPS...

Sometimes it takes a while for the GPS to register the satillites...

Make sure the unit has clear view of the sky...

If the GPS does not connect in 5-10 minutes (usually less than 2)...we will need to further troubleshoot as possible internal antenna problems ...

Geoff,
If you are using the internal GPS Receivers in each unit; swap the units to each other's mounts to see if the problem follows the unit (internal GPS Receiver problem) or if it stays with the same mounting location (power related problem).
I am assuming that both units worked correctly before and that this is a new problem, am I right?
I noticed that you did not list the Sonar menu tab, are you having sonar problems too?

Thanks Greg,
I think I've just worked out the problem, yes this is quite new, only found it this afternoon whilst trying to solve the Spot Lock point problem.

I did the firmware upgrade to 7.120 outside the boat so yes, no sonar tab as there was no transducer connected to each unit.

I just put the sounders back in the boat as they are linked by an Ethernet switch with the iPilot Link Minnkota.

The sounders "found" each other over Ethernet successfully. The bow unit is the one I was having trouble with.

It found the GPS receiver in the Helm unit and synched to it quite successfully. I now have all of the menu options back.

Unfortunately neither sounder lists the Bow units internal GPS as a source option.

Looks like I may have a Bow sounder with a dead internal GPS.

Could be worse, it could be out of warranty!

Thanks,
Geoff

PS, I'll fill in the Spot Lock point resolution in my other thread so as not to cause confusion between two unrelated issues.

A quick update,
I took the sounder to the dealer I purchased it from this morning.

He agrees there is something wrong with it, it doesn't see its own internal GPS.

The accessories diagnostic screen says, GPS UNCONNECTED

So it is now on its way to BLA in Australia for repair.
