Everyone using downimaging please go to http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zerothread/493214-the-truth-about-down-imaging. (http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zerothread/493214-the-truth-about-down-imaging.) It is a terribly long thread that ends up with a lot of arguing, but some good information. Then go to http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zeropost?cmd=fshow&id=279 (http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zeropost?cmd=fshow&id=279) and post your experience. I would like to see how many people with positive and negative experiences with downimaging. Thanks

Welcome aboard
We are still learning about DownImaging, do a search on Downimaging there is a lot of good information.
I do not think you will get much in the way of trying to compare/justify Humminbird vs Lowrance on this site. All of us like Humminbird not only for SideImaging and DownImaging (which is still in the learning stages). As far as the two technologies I like HB's better but they are comparably the same.
If you are looking for a decision on which way to go Humminbird vs Lowrance you will find us all pro Humminbird for a good reason, it is called customer service. Lowrance has had some issues in customer service.
There is a lot of info on this site. I would prefer that we not bash each other. We are Divers and Fishermen looking for the best tools to help us to learn and be successful in our hobbies and/or professions.

George I started with a 997, then got an 1197. I just purchased a 798 for portable use in Canada. I have been very satisfied with HB. I started reading on the BBC when someone posted a link about comparing it to downscan. The results of that test showed a VERY poor result. The individual who did the test has said that downimaging is useless. I mentioned that if it worked so poorly, why were there not complaints being registered in the forums. My intent with this post was to actually see how many were having good or poor results- which I have only seen good so far. The link I posted was a thread not comparing Lowrance with it, but defending the statement that it does indeed scan directly below the boat.
