Title: 1198cx si
Post by: metalworx on July 18, 2014, 09:31:25 AM
Just got this unit yesterday and have never seen "x" in product model description.   Can someone tell me what the "x" is?

That means that it is an International version model unit.  It will have additional languages, time zones, measurements and (unfortunately) a different background map set in it.

Where did you get an International version unit from?

I bought it through BBG Marine.  He said it came from Florida distribution center

Will that affect my lakemaster or Navionics map cards?

Hmmm, must have been some sort of close-out deal with those model units.
No, it will not affect the maps you view if they are from a map card.  You will still be able to see your LakeMaster and Navionics maps.

You might want to call Brian back at BBG Marine and inquire about a 1198c SI instead...

Brian is really accommodating with his customers...

I don't think it's going to be an issue.   Just hadn't ever saw a "x" in product decription

Rickie gave you an excellent suggestion. I also would be calling Brian to find out my options. Brian is a great person to deal with.

My sincere apologies as we did not know these were international models as the distributor we buy from, marketed them as a US version. In addition, these close-out units ship direct from the warehouse.

As Greg Walters indicated, the CX units will function and operate the same as the U S version and will accept any Navionics or LakeMaster map cards.

The key difference is the pre-loaded map will be the Uni-Map instead of the Contour XD map. Most folks will run their own choice of mapping so that may have little impact on how you use your unit.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.

The 1198cx unit is marketed internationally and in demand where Metric units are used. These are usually restricted to outside the Us except for Canada. >:D
It may be worthwhile for BG to get rid of the others on the international market (or through ebay marked as international) as they normally will sell with a better margin.
Cheers ;D
