Title: Preferred SD card
Post by: jfreborg on July 15, 2014, 11:27:24 AM
Hi guys,
So I had a weird issue with my 999 when I tried to transfer the waypoints from my old 787. I exported the waypoints from the 787 using the export nav data function and all seemed well. When I removed the card and put it into the left slot on my 999 the unit froze? It did not respond to anything and I had to remove the power cable in order to restart it. I was using the same SD card I used to put on the software update, which worked fine. But once I added the waypoints it didn't work. I tried deleting all the data and reformating the card and then started the process over and the same thing happened. Any ideas? Do the newer units only like certain types of cards when it comes to waypoints? Very confused. Thanks as always.

No, the newer units should work on a variety of memory cards (as long as they meet the SD Associations specs – not all do).  If the memory card worked before it should work now.  Some questions:
When you formatted the memory card, di you do a full format or a quick format?
What brand and size memory card is this?
Have you tried the memory card by itself with no files on it and see if the 999 unit still locks up?
Have you tried the other memory card slot?

We usually don’t have any problems with the SanDisk brand of memory cards unless they just flat out fail, but then they usually just don’t work and not lock up the unit.  Try your unit with no memory/mapping cards in it and see if it still locks up or not.  If it does not lock up try another memory card and see if it locks up again or not.
