when I am in water <5 ft and engage the t/m, screen blanks out. The T/M is a MG 82# Digital Tour edition and I used the same transom transducer and just moved it to the t/m with an adapter. Do I need to get a transducer made to go on the trolling motor or what?

Finding and eliminating TM interference is a process of elimination...due to the many possible scenarios of RFI getting into your unit's system...
You can start here...
http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/FAQ/Trolling-Motor-Interference/ (http://www.humminbird.com/Category/Support/FAQ/Trolling-Motor-Interference/)
Then call HB 1-800-633-1468...
HB is very knowledgable in helping customers with this frequent issue...

Typically the made for trolling motor transducers, not the adapted ones, have additional shielding in them in an attempt to try and shield the sonar from trolling motor interference. Such is the case with the XTM-9-Si-180-T transducer for the 597 unit.
Calling the Humminbird Customer Resource Center folks is not a bad way to start on this process either.

Thanks gentlemen for the replies and advise. I'll call HB Monday and get started on figuring this out. :D

Hope you called early in the day as Mondays are the busiest day of the week for our CRC folks, especially following a four-day weekend like we had for the Independence Day holiday…

OK, so far this isn't going well. I ordered a t/m transducer that is supposed to be made for the 597 and this can't be right. They shipped me a XTM-9-20T. Unit just doesn't work properly. It gives me temperature, depth is all screwed up (reads deeper than it is), DI doesn't work at all and the HD is very poor. Engage the T/M and the picture blanks out again. Either I misunderstood them or they just shipped me the wrong transducer?

There are 2 different 597 models...
597ci HD ......(which would use the XTM 9 20 T).......trolling motor housing...
597ci HD DI ..(which would use the XTM 9 DI 25 T)...trolling motor housing...
HB has sent you the XTM 9 20 T which is Dual Beam only...no DI....
You OP title says 597...(no indication of DI)...
Which unit do you actually have...??

I have the 587ci HD and it's my fault, it should use the XTM9 DI 25T..... I think. I usually do this to myself when I get in a hurry. I'll see Monday if I can swap them out. Is that the right transducer? Please double check me. I actually confused myself or should I say misquoted myself. I moved the 587 to the bow when I got the 598ci HD SI for the console.

1 more question...just for clarity...
The post above says 587 HD....
Is your unit the ......587ci HD ...?? (Which would use the XTM 9 20 T)
Or is your unit the...587ci HD DI...?? (Which would use the XTM 9 DI 25 T)
(Sometimes all these HB model numbers can get confusing...Greg catches my misquotes also)...

It is the 587ci HD DI, I have it in my hand right now to make sure this time.
-
That's fine..
Just make sure to give HB the entire model name (all letters and numbers)...so they will send you correct xducer for your application...
Remember that your interference issue may not be solved simply by getting the TM xducer that has the extra shielding...
RFI is a beast sometimes...and it takes some instances several different "fixes" to fix it...
But the 1st step is to get the correct xducer for your setup...then test for RFI...
Post your results...and we will work from there...

Thanks Rickie, I will and sorry for the confusion. I am prone to senior moments ;D

No need to be sorry...
Like I mentioned...all these HB numbers are confusing...to me also...
Hopefully your RFI issue will be one of the "easy" ones to fix...
