Since I installed the 1198 last year I have had this issue where the right side side imaging is darker than the left side. I didn't have much time last year, but I have been trying to troubleshoot this for the last 3 days. The first 2 attached images are exactly the same place - with reversing directions. The last one is deeper water where it gets even darker.
I have had the boat in & out of the water 5 times in the last 3 days after making various adjustments. Nothing seems to change it. I thought the problem was the transducer was maybe not level horizontally once in the water. I have adjusted it 5 times, both horizontally and up/down - one change at a time, with nothing fixing the problem.
I have even relocated the transducer from the bottom step of the hull to the jack plate just to make sure that nothing was blocking the signals.
I originally had a 898 installed with the same transducer location without this problem. I'm at a loss as what to try next.
Ideas?

From the consistency of the right SI being dark...even when reversing direction over the same bottom...there are a few possibilities...
(And taking into consideration that the 898 on this same xducer showed no issue)...
*xducer rotated counterclockwise ...aiming the right SI beam higher than the left...
*list in the boat to port...also aiming the right SI beam higher than the left...
*something to the right of the xducer blocking the right SI beam...
*something in the right SI transmitter not functioning correctly...
Can you post pics of your xducer installation...and we will work from there...??
Has the 1198 ever worked correctly on this xducer...??
Do you have (or have access to) another xducer that the 1198 can be tested on...??

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Kevin.
Was the 898 unit ever used on this same transducer?
Did you use the same mounting holes for the transducer hardware when you mounted the new HDSi transducer?
What happened to the 898 unit and can you use it to test the new HDSi transducer?
The problem is either in the transducer, the unit or the transducer mounting. Lets eliminate one or more of these if possible,

Greg,
Thanks for responding. It is the new transducer that came with the unit. I mounted in exactly the same place as the 898 & 997 was. I tried every option that was suggested with no changes whatsoever. I have been to the lake about 8 times in the last 2 months testing - trying to get this fixed.
I finally convinced my brother to let me take his transducer off his boat and use for testing. Went out the lake over the weekend - that fixed the problem. I had it plugged in directly to the 1198 and the picture was perfect! I even plugged it in back to the y cable - perfect picture. Finally.
Now for the bad news - Just got off the phone with HB support - they will not replace it under warranty - its about 4 weeks past. I tried to explain my situation that this has been on-going, but she just kept talking over me, repeating "Sir, you are past your warranty period".
I really appreciate the help here on this forum and very glad to have this fixed. Extremely disappointed in HB regarding the warranty though. I have over $10k in HB equipment , and would think there would be a little customer appreciation.
Thank you guys again for the help. I'm sure I'll be on here again to tackle some interference problems I'm having..

Kevin,
When did you notice that you had this problem?

Got your message Kevin.
Hope we can get this worked out.

There must be a bad batch of SI transducers, I have had the same problem with my 898HD that I installed last year as well.

We can tell when a transducer was made but no one here has said anything about a “bad batch of SI transducers” that I know of. I think all that we are seeing is that the Si transducers are more susceptible to damage and failure than standard transducers do to their more complex design.
