I have a 1198 and I also just purchased a 898 for my upper station I was told to purchase the ethernet cable which I did. The firmware version that I had on the 1198 is 6.490 and the 898 has 6.180 which i was told by support that I needed to upgrade the firmware. I went through the steps of downloading the firmware for each device a separate card. I set settings back to default then I put the SD card in the device and follwed the prompts and start the upgrade I seen a couple of the screens change color then in went to shutting down and it started right back up with the loading screen and then right back to shutting down. Has anyone seen this and is there a fix. I have not upgraded the 898 with the fear it will crash as well. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Reel-Tall.
Try downloading the 1198 unit’s software update file off the Humminbird web site again and give it another go.
If that does not help; do you know what software version your 1198 unit had before you tried to update it?

I tried to reply earlier but it did not take I guess lol.
When you say down the the file again, you are talking about the bin file correct? The Website I retrieved said software from was:

The original version of the Software the 1198C had on it was 6.490

Yes, download the bin file from your My Humminbird account again.

I just downloaded the file again and cleared the SD card. I put the file back on the SD card by using humminbird pc 4.3.8. I am getting the same result.
Humminbird PC
file>update then choose the new bin file
You see the hummingbird splash screen>loading Files>Shutting Down

You can try loading an older version software and, if it will load correctly, load the current software again. You should be trying to load the 7.090 version so I can send you the 7.080 or 6.740 software to your listed e-mail address if you need it.

I had the same result today. Updated my 1199 to 7.02 with the 1199 bin file - no problem. Tried to update my 999 with the 999 7.02 bin file and after being locked up at the Shutting down screen for close to an hour I tried to turn it off. But with all buttons unresponsive I pulled the power and let it die. Then when I tried to restart it the looping started which probably lasts 15 seconds or 30 seconds where it does something and you get the bird, then you get the Shutting down, then it starts this all over again. I called HB today and they said there was nothing I could do on my end because it just continuously loops as you said, Shutting down... then restarting, Shutting down... They sent me a return label and it's on its way back to Humminbird now.
