Title: GPS antennae blown again !
Post by: oz on May 23, 2014, 04:33:36 PM
I'm a professional charter skipper in the uk , I replaced the antennae a year ago under warranty and alas it has blown again, no GPS signal again

Is  this a common fault ? I don't think I can afford to operate a professional vessel with unreliable Gps

Are there any other products I can purchase to replace the humminbird antennae ?

Cheers oz

Want a reliable GPS, go buy a Garmin for your mapping.
Humminbird GPS have problem on multiples units.

My 798 loose GPS signal at least 1-2 times each weekends and the tracklog have bogus positions points in them. I use a Garmin GPS to feed position data to my 798.

A hand GPS Garmin 60 is more accurate than HB GPS...

Please excuse my ignorance, do the gar in GPS receivers have the same plug connections as humminbird ?

Some (but not all) will output NMEA data to your HB unit via a special cable.

oz,
Our external GPS Receivers do not fail all that often, we have had more reported problems with the internal GPS Receivers from the posts that I have read.  If this is your second one to fail could you r installation location be causing this?  Where is it installed?

Many Humminbird units will accept GPS position data from an NMEA 0183 source but you will need the AS-HHGPS to make the connection to the Humminbird unit.
