Title: How to mount transducer to THIS?
Post by: robsco on May 22, 2014, 02:21:53 PM
First post so pardon any mistakes.
I am needing to mount the SI transducer (998c) to my boat and have this question/problem:
My hull is stepped, but can find a “quiet” spot between ribs I guess.
My transom is not only slanted top to bottom (dotted line is bottom edge) but also angled towards the sides.
I assume the transducer needs to face straight down the centerline of the boat not to cause strain on it etc.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums robsco.

Could you post some pictures of your boat hull so that we could understand this better?
One showing the overall transom area, one from the left side looking right across the transom and one from the right side looking left across the transom.  Al should be at about water level height or a little lower.  Would be nice to have one showing up under the hull too.

Here's a few shots. The hull is smooth all the way from the back to front (no step). Hard to get a hull shot that low to the ground.

robsco,
Your boat’s hull is one of those that you need to be there in person to see the best transducer location.  The sides of the transom project back from the motor mount area.  Installing the HDSi transducer on the back of one of them would cause the motor to block the Si sonar to the other side and I’m not sure if you would be able to trim up the motor enough to get it out of the way while using the Si sonar.  You could do this and mount a second HDSi transducer on the opposite side and connect both together with the As-Si-LR-Y cable but that is an expense you may not need.  I would look at installing it low and to the right of the motor (just to the right of the drain hole).  I can’t tell what sort of clearance it has to the left and right buy you can get someone to hold the transducer in place and eyeball it.

Thanks Greg.
That's what I did, put it on the flat part of the transom right of the lower self-draining hole. It’s protected and square to the centerlines of the hull/transom. Slight tilt of the motor and it’s good to go.
For some reason I was  caught up thinking I had to get it in the water for a signal while on plane but realized it would be best to install a skimmer for that purpose.
Won’t be doing any high speed side imaging.  8)
