I am thinking about purchasing a 999 Si combo. I now have a 998 and wish to mount it on the bow and the 999 on the console. If I am reading this correctly I will need to purchase nearly $300.00 worth of switches and cables... A 5 port Ethernet switch, and a adapter cable ethernet as well as a ethernet cable. As of now I come from my trolling motor right into the 998....perhaps I don't need them to talk to each other after all. Does anyone see a problem with keeping them separate?
Thanks

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Ryans Pappa.
No, you do not have to connect both units together, you can keep them separate.
How do you have your trolling motor connected to your 998 unit?
Is this the sonar only or is this an i-Pilot Link trolling motor?
If this is an i-Pilot Link, then yes you would need the 5-Port Ethernet Switch and extra cables to connect everything together.

Yes I have the I Link....The main reason I want to purchase a 999 is that I have been told I can use the Auto Chart to it's max with the new 999. I have had the Auto chart pro for nearly two months now and can't use it...as you well know..is there any way to use both of them separately?
Thanks

Yes, you can use both units separately.
In fact, there is a way that you can use the AutoChart maps on your 998 unit (see the attached). Someone else posted this a few days ago but I can’t find it now…

Nice stuff Greg, I have an 899 up front connectijn the 998's HS GPS and no current plans for that feature now, since I am running the old v1 i-Pilot and need to pay down a few more bills before I bite off a LINK... ;)
Then maybe the AC can come in time - but one of my favorite lakes is already done in HD 1' contours.
Great times ahead for sure!
:)
Thanks for the info!!
