Hello everyone.
I have a 2009 basstracker 170 tx with a 50 hp merc. I just purchased a 999ci hd si and i need help on the install. My motor does not have a jackplate so mounting on the transom may interfear with some of the side readings. Also if i mount below the transom on the stepped part i am putting my expensive transducer at risk. Does andyone have any good recomandations for me? If i mount it under the step about 4 inches from the hull i would have 1 side of the ducer below the hull, and 1 side even with the hull, would i be able to get high speed (35 mph) sonar readings just for depth?

I have a 17' Mako ProSkiff to which I recently installed a manual jackplate with a 4" setback hoping to improve performance a bit. The JP did little for the boats performance BUT when it came time to install my HB-999 it came in very handy because I was able to install the SI transducer near the center line of the boat. The SI transducer is mounted high enough that when on plane it is completely out of the water and safe from damage. It did require me to add the secondary 2D transducer using the appropriate Y cable to get depth readings at speed but the install was much simpler and the expensive SI transducer is protected. My manual JP cost less than replacing a damaged SI transducer and I have the ability to painlessly tweak engine height as a bonus.

From the picture you posted, it looks to me that your
2-D transducer is going to interfere with some of the right
side imaging. You want the SI transducer to have a clear line
of sight to both sides.

You are correct that the SI transducer needs to have a clear view to both sides. What is not clear in my photo is that my transom is flat where the engine/SI transducer is mounted but it angles forward on each side of the flat portion of the transom. The 2D transducer is actually about 6" in front of the SI Transducer. Here is a picture looking across the transom. As you can see there is nothing in the way of the SI signal.

I couldn't make that out from the first picture.
