Title: 2009 Tracker 170 tx/ 999 side image install
Post by: bassmasterG13 on May 05, 2014, 02:26:28 PM
Hello everyone.
I have a 2009 basstracker 170 tx with a 50 hp merc. I just purchased a 999ci hd si and i need help on the install. My motor does not have a jackplate so mounting on the transom may interfear with some of the side readings. Also if i mount below the transom on the stepped part i am putting my expensive transducer at risk. Does andyone have any good recomandations for me? If i mount it under the step about 4 inches from the hull i would have 1 side of the ducer below the hull, and 1 side even with the hull, would i be able to get high speed (35 mph) sonar readings just for depth?
Attached is the back of my boat.
Thanks for any help.
Gio

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums Gio.

There is no way to tell for sure that you would be able to get high-speed water depth readings for any location as all boats are different, even two that are set up identically.

If you mount the HDSi transducer under the step you risk damaging the transducer and its expensive to replace, but that may end up being your best option.

Mounting on one side of the motor or the other would cause the motor to block some of the Si sonar to the opposite side (mount on the right side of the motor and the motor blocks the left Si sonar), unless you can trim up the motor when you use the Si sonar that is.  That would still leave you with no water depth readings at high boats speeds though.

There is a multi-HDSi transducer installation that we could explore but that means installing a second HDSi transducer and an AS-Si-LR-Y cable but there are no high-speed water depth readings guarantees.

so do you think my best option is mounting about 4 inches from the hull, on the stepped transom? there is more room closer to the hull so the trasducer wouldnt fully be exposed. This would leave one side sticking out from underneath and the other even with the hull.
