Hi folks. First post here but I'm grateful for all that I've gleaned from this place.
My GPS has always worked perfectly up until recently. I loaded the most recent update and started using a Navionics card and now it consistently shows me many yards from my actual location, often up on land.
I don't know if this is related to the update or the Navionics card. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this and what a solution might be?

There were some instances in the past where the Trackpoint Memory being full was causing issues similar to this...(even tho the unit is supposed to overwrite the oldest Trackpoint as each new Trackpoint is recorded after the Trackpoint Max)...
Try clearing the current track...
Then remove the map card...
Then Restore Defaults...
Then reboot the unit....
Then reinstall map card....
Test again...

This should not have normally been changed, but check that you don't
have your map offset set to something other than null/blank/none.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums doug.
When you say that the GPS is now showing you yards away from your actual location: how do you know what your actual location is?
Is this by using a previously set waypoint or by what you are seeing on the Navionics mapping card?

Thanks guys - I just realized that the forum still had my old email address so I didn't realize that i had any responses yet.
Greg - the way I (believe that) I know that I am yards away from where the GPS thinks I am is that the track shows me well up on the shore when I am in fact well out into the lake. In the past the location shown on the GPS was spot on.

I don't know if it makes a diff or not but I've also noticed that when I start the unit up now i get a message saying "The track sill record for 10 more minutes" etc. Even after I deleted all of my old tracks and waypoints.

Reset your defaults, back up your way points to SD card (export NAV data) - format NAV directories and try it again...
FWIW - I always has problems with the map offset being zonkers on my Navionics cards - I have a pair of Lake Masters in the 2 bigger 'Birds - I think the contour XD works just "OK".....

Thanks SFW. I'm going out tomorrow. I think that I'll try without the navionics card and see if it's still off. That should help figure out where it might be coming from.

doug,
When it used to show you in the correct spot versus when it shows you on land now: were you using the same Navionics mapping card both times?
Did you use a Map Offset either time or at any time in between?
-
Greg- Both the navionics card and the update are new since the last time I went out. I went out today and it seemed to work just fine, whether I had the navionics card in or not. Strange, I think. I'll get out again Thursday and see what it does then.

doug,
Was this the same area of the lake or a different area?
Next time you see this happening: go to the GPS Diagnostic View and let us know what the GPS Fix and HDOP and EPE numbers are.

Will do
