I have a 997C SI and a 797 SI and I cannot see my fishing line and lure on my screen when fishing a drop shot. Pro's like Brent Ehrler have several videos that show them fishing a drop shot and you can see their fishing line and lure on their Humminbird. Most of the time, the video shows the Humminbird unit, the fish on the bottom and their lure dropping down with fish moving toward or away from the lure, but it never tells the exact settings on their unit. Can anyone assist me on how to set up my unit for this type fishing?

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums kszlw.
What transducer(s) do you have connected to your units?
Where are the transducer(s) located?
When you drop shot, are you doing so right by the transducer?
Are you running the latest software version in each unit?
- Start by resetting the menus to the factory settings (use the restore Defaults menu).
- Set the Noise Filter to the Off setting,
- Set the Surface Clutter menu to as high of a setting as you can stand it.
- Set the Beam Select to the 200kHz setting.
- Set the SwitchFire menu to the Max Mode setting.
- Manually set the Lower Range menu to just below the water depth. Setting the Upper Range menu to a setting deeper than zero (water’s surface) will help maximize the displays vertical sonar resolution too.

On the 997 at console, I'm using the transducer that came with the unit (transom mount XHS 9 HDSI 180 T) I think. Mounted to the transom close to the bottom of the boat
On the 797 on bow, I'm using a trolling motor transducer that looks like (XTM 9 DI 25 T) that I purchase with the units.
Yes, we have tried to drop shot right by the trolling motor transducer and also by the transom mount transducer. We try to get as close to the transducer as possible.
I'm running the most current version software. In fact, I sent both units back to Humminbird last fall and had Humminbird install the software and do some minor repairs.

It could be that the transducers are getting weaker or even the input voltage to the units has fallen (check all electrical connections for any that are loose or corroded and don’t forget the fuse, fuse holder and battery terminals) but would like to eliminate anything that we can. Try the menu adjustments above and see if anyone you know has a Humminbird unit so you can cross-test your units on their boat and theirs on your boat. This will help point to where the problem is. All you are looking for is someone with a non-DI model Humminbird unit.
