Title: iPilot Link and 899 connectivity problems
Post by: angler1 on April 20, 2014, 08:49:44 PM
Installed my new ipilot link control head on top of my terrova 101, and installed my new 899 and networked.  I did all this in the driveway this weekend and have not been on the water yet, but I have a concern.  The ipilot link shows connected initially.  Then it later shows it is unconnected and remains this way unless I reboot everything.  I rebooted everything and even got enough connectivity to update the hummingbird, the control head, and the remote with the latest updates.  It showed connected and then later showed it was unconnected again on the accessory screen.  Quit for the evening.

Yes, all my connections are good and everything is updated with the latest software.  Again, I have not put the boat in the water yet, but thought I'd put a post out to see if this has happened to anyone and if there is an easy fix.  I am no master with either technology yet.  Any idea?

Thanks

I had the same problem with my 998 running 6.4x. I updated my units to the new 6.7x and the ipilot link to 1.16 and it seemed to go away. I will check when I am on the water today and see if it still disconnects. I was worried about doing the update to the ilink for fear it would disconnect during the update and I would have to send it in to get it fixed or something like that. You aren't alone on this one.

Thanks Cory,

Sounds like a software/networking bug then.  I did get on all the latest updates to each the 899, then control head, then remote.  So sounds like Humminbird engineers are going to need some new updates ASAP.  I probably won't get on the water for another weak, but I will post actual performance/connectivity when I can run everything.  Hopefully I'm not regretting all these upgrades.  Hate to be fighting technology instead of fish.

Yeah I hear that. Just got off the water here and ran the trolling motor for a good half hour while I was mapping in the shallows. Never disconnected. I will try again in a few days when the weather is better and try again. My 998 was shutting down after I hit exit though on startup, i had to remove the SD card in order for it to start up correctly, i inserted the card when it was up and running and never had another problem. Always something!

Cory,
What brand, size, speed SD card are you using?

Hmmm.  Sandisk makes an SD Association compliant memory card so it shouldn’t cause problems.  Maybe try doing a full format on it and see if it still does it

I run the same card in the 1198, i will swap the carda tonight and see if the 1198 has the same trouble. If it does, I'll know it's the card. I have some extras I will bring along as well.

Cory, one question....  That is one heck of a bass!  You couldn't have caught that in MN?  You have to be down south with that picture?  Wife is from Duluth and got some nice walleye and northern in your state, but can't get bass like that!  Tell me the truth.  Or is my life going to change with side scan?

Angler, i will tell you the truth. When I caught that Bass I had nothing to measure it with or weigh it. I was fishing out of my Duck boat with no electronics, only a trolling motor on a tiny lake 3 miles from my house. That is the biggest one I have seen come out of the water.  It is a Minnesota Bass. If I had to guess I would say it was 25".  I had to bail water into the livewell to cover it so my buddy could come from his house to take the picture!  I released it and go back there every year and try to catch it again. I haven't been able to yet but have heard of others catching a "huge" bass on that lake and can only guess that it has been caught a few times. I know others may not think its a very big one, but around here (MN) I haven't seen one bigger.  I appreciate you recognizing it!

Greg,
Did a reformat on both SD cards I had. No problems what so ever on the water tonight.

Cory..that's a great story and a nice fish.  Will get a lunker now and then in PA.  But most are small 2-5lb.  My father in law pulls only 8lb and up bass out of a 3 acre lake in Tampa FL ... in his back yard..on a zebco kids combo!  One after another.  Makes me sick.

Will get the boat in the water this weekend and test out link and my new 899...will update how it's working.  And Greg, got the through hull mounted, so will add some pics and update you on any problems with it in front of the lower unit...probably on my original tranducer post.
