Title: What is the point of the forum if no one comments?
Post by: WI Bad Bass on April 20, 2014, 11:03:21 AM
I thought these forums were to discuss things?  How can 350 people look at the post and choose to not chim in?  I thought this was so we could learn from each other, but I a finding that people would rather keep it to them selves until they need something?  Just upsetting to see all the help people need and next to no one helps out? I am brand new to the set up and learning as I go, but many of you are not.  Just shows that the majority of people will not extend their hands out unless they get something back.  This is not towards everyone.

Don't understand where you are coming from  ??? I appreciate all the effort that our ''real HB experts" expend on this site in trying to answer questions..... the "normal user" like yours truly doesn't have the experience or expertise to offer good suggestions for the problems others face.

Let's see.... Total Posts: 41,537, Total Topics: 6,385, Total Members: 9,248... Somehow I think some information is getting exchanged.
I've been here nearly everyday for the last four years and the sharing of help has been outstanding. Your chance of being exposed to
this knowledge and skill sets without this site would be similar the hitting the Powerball five drawings in a row.
I would think if 350 people read one of my post without comments, I'd be rewording or clarifying it.

What is your question?

I for one, don't appreciate your tone.
There are lots of people on this forum that help whenever they can.
If multiple people read your question, and none of them have an answer to your question, do you want 350 answers that say "I don't know"?

Probably 300 of those supposed hits were you checking to see if anybody responded to your question. :)

I have been reading through your past posts to see what your question was. Now I have a question, how many responses have you had on your 40 other posts?

My guess is that no-one who read your question felt qualified to answer it.....and that this thread will decrease the likelihood of getting answers in the future.

It is not just my posts, I see a lot of posts that go un answered,  there is some great guys on here that I see posting all the time. I agree that not everyone can give a real problem fixing answer, but opinions count too.  You don't have to have gone to school for 5 years and work with the product every day to be able to give a good direction. If a guy wanted to discuss his problem with out getting the problem fixed, I would talk with my wife. I just feel like there is a ton of guys looking for help and not getting it?  I am new to the nice finders and wish I could help more.  Not looking to offend anyone, just wondering.  Thanks

Alot of folks that come on here are new to the units and most don't know how to answer the Q's asked...I'm not going to give advice on something I don't know about ( I run a 898 and a 859...how am I going to give advice on another unit).  But every time I've had a Q or a problem it has been addressed and I've been able to fix my problem or at least make it better.  Over the months I've seen Q that relate to things that have happened to me and those post I reply too as others have done for me.

Their are other ways to address your post above rather than the way it was given out...too much good info and help on here to go that route.  Does this mean I will not give info to help you in the future if I know the answer ...absolutely not, I will help if I can and others will do the same.

Bad Bass,
You came on way too strong, with criticizing members here that probably
never saw your original question.

Think about this:
Income taxes were due just last week.
The grass needs to be cut, and yard work done.
Also, fishing season has begun for many members.
People may be really busy this time of year.
Some people may not have even visited this forum for a few weeks.

If you really, really, need help, and don't have the patients to wait for
a reply, then you can always call Humminbird customer service at
1-800-633-1468.

Now, why don't your ask your question again here, in a nice way.

Bad Bass,  I find this site very helpful when I have a problem with my equipment.  I might suggest that you learn how to use the SEARCH on this site and on the web.   I find that if I search for information on my units or the problem that I have I find the answer most of the time.  As an example, using your depth finder 998c HD SI  there are 17 pages of information that might be helpful to you.  When I got my equipment I searched for them not only here but on the web.   There is so much info that unless you are brain dead you might find an answer to your problem.   Yes this takes some time however if you really want to learn your equipment it takes a little work.   It is no different than learning a lake,  you don't learn it by fishing it once or twice you have to put the time in to learn it.  When I don't get a reply to a question, I appreciate the fact that there isn't some one throwing out false info.

As for the posting where you received no response, it might be that this is the wrong site to ask about that tournament.  If you do a SEARCH in Google  for “Rayovc FLW tournament reviews” there 327,000 results.   Now they might not be exactly what you are looking for but it should answer a few questions for you.

Happy SEARCHING :) :)

Greg's been @ HB a very long time, a great guy and a wealth of knowledge.
I answer a few myself, but I also help run another site - and we always say :
If you don't like what you're getting - don't let the dorr hit you in the hiney on your way out...LOL!
 :o
Now if you just don't have time - try to PM a member or post it on another forum.
I though when I was made a moderator & given a PM box of 1000 messages, I would have plenty of room...NOT!!!

When you come on with a poor attitude, you won't get much help - if you want to ask your question here - I think our little group might take a stab at it right here..........
