Christmas present....898chdsi....installed hdsi ducer on transom... installed down imaging ducer in bilge for on plane images
in exact location of original, factory installed Phiranamax 160 ducer (sanded and cleaned then epoxied new ducer down)
connected both ducers to head unit thru y cable
problem is I can't get on plane images on the down imaging view...seems to work on plane in the switch fire mode.
any one have any ideas?

I'm not sure, but you may be mixing your terminology a little. The transducer epoxied in the hull should be a 2D transducer...not a DI transducer. It is used to get good 2D depth readings at speed.
The DI on the 898 is derived from the HDSI transducer you have on the transom.

Welcome to the Humminbird Side Imaging Forums alliegator4.
I think I answered this same question on another forum today…
If this is an actual DI model transducer and you have it connected via an AS-Si-DB-Y cable to your 898c HD Si unit, than you won’t get anything but 2D sonar from the bilge mounted transducer. That is because the AS-Si-DB-Y cable disconnects the 2D sonar from the Si transducer and connects it to the second transducer (which is usually a 200/83kHz DualBeam transducer). Using a DI model transducer (which one did you use?) only allows the 2D portion of that transducer to operate.
If your intention was to be able to have Si/Di plus 2D sonar at low speed but have 2D and dedicated DI sonar when on plane than you should take the AS-Si-DB-Y cable out and install a TS3 Transducer Switch in its place. Make sure that the Down Imaging Bean Width menu is on the Wide setting or you will not see any Di sonar.

thanks Bob B and Greg
You are correct bob... I was mistaken in my terminology and expectations..... I added a dual beam transducer to my bilge and connected the side imaging transducer on my transom with a Y cable to the 898 head unit ,thinking I would get down imaging and dual beam imaging from the bilge ducer (on plane). I now think, I am correct in thinking, that I will only get the switchfire mode on plane? Is that correct?
thanks for the help

Sounds correct....Glad the confusion is clearing up.
