Here is my problem. I have my gps puck mounted on the back of my boat right above the transducer. When I use i-Link to go to a spot, it uses the gps in the Terrova. Therefor when I get to my spot I am off by the distance of the boat length + or- the accuracy of the gps. I have been told that I could move the gps to the middle of the boat and I could cut the distance in half. Now I am about to add a 360 on the transom and when I do this I believe that I should put the new replacement gps on the back of the boat for the best accuracy of the 360. If I move the new gps to the middle of the boat how will this effect the accuracy of the 360?

Your waypoints won't be off by the length of the boat.
If you mark the waypoint with the transom GPS (mounted close to the transducer), this logs a set of co-ordinates. The accuracy of the co-ordinates is determined by the relative location when you MARK the waypoint, and that waypoint will be as good as the GPS signal you are getting at the time.
When you send those co-ordinates to the I-Pilot, and it uses it's own GPS to try to go to those co-ordinates, you will also have the best possible accuracy.

I understand that but I fish from the back of my boat and when I get to the waypoint I am sitting a boats length from the spot. Lets say that I have a waypoint of a fish crib. When my Terrova takes me there I am not sitting on the crib, it is a boat length away. My graph is in the back of the boat with me and the crib is not on the bird. I know that with practice I will probably adjust but I would like to set everything up so it is the least confusing.

I think I-Link (Uses the unit GPS) and I-Pilot (own GPS) work differently, I may be mistaken though. You may want to sort out what uses what. I have 2 units and 2 Pucks on my rig and you can select which Puck you want the I-Link to use. It was my understanding that I-Link uses they GPS in the TM when you go into spot lock. I may be wrong though. This is a good question for HB Customer Support.
I had the same concerns when setting up the rig about being a boat length off if I Mark a spot with the transom Puck and use the I-Link to GOTO that spot. The answer I got from HB when I called was to mount a Puck up front by the TM so the Data is as accurate as can be when using some features like follow the contour. I fish on some lakes where the depth in the front of the boat can be 2ft and the back can be 10ft. I didn't like the idea of being a boat length off, or even a half of a length off when it comes to running the TM up on rocks.

I’m thinking that the only way that you can have the i-Pilot Link, 360 Imaging and Humminbird unit all use the same physical location (when showing the same coordinates) would be to install all GPS Receivers at the same location on your boat. That would mean moving the i-Pilot Link trolling motor to the transom where you fish.

Thanks for the replies. I think that I am going to try the middle of the boat. I troll a lot and it is works so much better when pulling the boat from the bow in choppy water than pushing it from the transom. I hope that the 360 is going to take a lot of the guess work out of my problem

I don't think you are going to be able to improve it........I didn't realize you were fishing from the back.
If insert inaccuracy in the waypoint you mark from the transom setup, it will just make the waypoint inaccurate........If you put the transom unit GPS in the middle of the boat,you could get 1 1/2 boat length inaccuracy instead depending on which direction you approach the waypoint from.

Bob B, I see what you are saying. So if I leave everything as is I will only be a boats length away from the way point. This really gets you mixed up when you are on the water and bouncing around. Like I said earlier I am hoping that the 360 is going to really be a blessing.

I want to eventually get one, and there isn't a lot of
information on the Web about how they work out
for people. I am extremely interested in what can be seen, at
what distances, and the detail.
I'm thinking the 360 is going to go away in a few years,
because I don't think that many people are buying them.
I've learned that sales is the main driving force behind
what Humminbird offers.
If not enough people buy it, they will drop it, quick.

Yes, at least with the 360 you can do an offset to correct the displayed position....not sure how that works with waypoints.
Itgeek.....The other forums I am on, seems like a lot of people buying them now that they have the bow unit and they have dropped the price $500.
I think there is a 360 and an ONIX in my future. I just need to start getting enough time on the water to justify them.
