Title: Transducer Swap Out and Shield Saver
Post by: Bayou Basser on March 24, 2014, 03:10:37 PM
Well I bit the bullet and ordered an 899ci HD SI unit today.  I ordered it from the Humminbird Outlet Store and they cannot ship it with the XHS-9-HD-SI-180T Transducer.  Is there an extra charge for the swap out for this transducer?  Also, Shield Saver, Inc. makes a shield (TM-HSI) for mounting the HD transducer on the trolling motor.  Does anyone know about this product and can give me some advice on it?

Thanks

Yes, there is an extra charge for the HDSi transducer.  Call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks to find out what it is.

Which trolling motor are you using? I have a Minn Kota maxxum 55# bow mount and they had to modify the standard bracket. Depends where the
skeg is located.

Thanks newkid4si.  The trolling motor is a Motor Guide 54lb thrust model FW-FB.  It looks like the shield will install ok but I wanted to make sure it does protect the transducer and does not interfere with the signals.

I just read some earlier posts concerning the TM-HSI shield saver and it looks like it is a good product and works well.  So we all can ignore this post.

I think the deciding factor is if you can get a flat surface the lenght of the shield for mounting, you'll be OK.
My motor has a 1/8" step where the motor surface meets the skeg housing. Greg is posting my install photos later.
Transducer S&S have been great people to work with.
