Title: 898SI Version Questions

    I have a 898SI unit that is currently running the latest version, I believe its 6.74 and was just wondering if I went back to 6.49 will I lose my ability to use my ethernet connectivity with my 858DI? Will I lose the casting ring feature as well? What else will I lose.  I do not have a 360 nor an I-pilot.  I just want to be able to share way points between my 898 and 858 and get the best pictures.

First off; do you know what version of software that this 898c Si unit was originally built with?
Loading a version older than this could potentially brick your unit.  This should determine whether you should load the 6.490 version software or not.
After that it really depends on the software version in your 858 DI unit as to whether the units can communicate over the Ethernet connection.

Doug, I am certain that both my 898 and 858 came with at least the 6.49 version...that being said....i want to go back to the 6.49 version on both units, but wanted to be able to still have ethernet GPS waypoint sharing and the casting rings.  I don't have any ancillary equipment in my system. 

I just wanted to have the best stable version with the best pics and seems like everyone concurs that the 6.49 version is...what's your opinion?

I think that you should run whatever software version you want to.  The majority on this board say that the 6.490 version software is the best unless you need a newer version for some accessory.  If both units are running this version software it should do what you want.  The casting rings were added in an older version of software, so the 6.490 version will have them too.

I figured you had just watched one of his videos or read a post made by him.
