The 898 has an ethernet port on the back, but a 899 does not. Would make an ethernet connection to the 899 with a AS EC QDE cable the same as for the 700 series? I need help!!!
When I brought the 899 unit I was told it had an Ethernet connector.

Yes that is what you need. bob

Lawnman, I bet you about crapped a brick when you went to connect those two units..... I'm glad you can connect them. I wonder why they dropped the "newer" Ethernet connections and went back to the interlink cable format.

So you would spend more money, for something that will not work like it is suppose to. Lol

They are saying it is so the Ethernet connector can be part of the cable collector instead of being a separate connector.

Makes it easier/faster to take on and off your boat.

Greg, is my thinking correct in needing an As EC QDM ADAPTER CABLE. What about about software on both units?
Thanks in advance
-
That would be the AS-EC-QDE cable (not "M").
The software versions you need on both units is dependent on what software each one has now (or the software version you want it to have).
What software version does each unit have now?

The 898 has the 6.4 version and the 899 has the 6.8 version. I do have the 6.7 version for the 898 but I have not updated yet.

lawman,
You will have to bring your 898 up to at least software version 6.680 for it to communicate with the 899 unit running the 6.8+ version software. The 6.740 loaded into the 898 will work for this.
