How do you prevent the unit from changing the distance scale on the GPS screen automatically?

scattman, just set your lower depth limit manually, a little deeper than the depth of water you are in. :)

mako101, he was asking about the GPS (mapping) View automatically changing scale on him.

scattman, Just go into the main menu system.  Under the “Chart” menus look for the “Auto Range” menu and set it to “Off”.  You can also temporarily turn it off according to the manual:
