Title: Will Magnet Mount of Head Unit Cause Interference?
Post by: FlyFisher SLC on February 21, 2014, 12:58:40 PM
I have a new 798 SI  :) that I want to mount on various pontoon boats using rare-earth magnets attached to the head-unit mount that attach to a circular plate on each boat.  It is very solid, but someone said the magnets would interfere with the sonar, display, memory card, etc.  Lakes are frozen here, so not able to test.

Would a magnetic mount interfere in any way with 798 sonar?

I don’t know for certain but I would not risk it either.

I concur with Greg.
Your unit may seem to work fine, but may give you false readings.
There may not be any way to know exactly how the unit is being affected.

Thanks guys for the advice.  I've jettisoned the magnets.  Can't wait to get it out on the water.
