Title: Transducer Swap
Post by: Kountrykool on February 20, 2014, 07:55:10 AM
Is there a benefit to swapping out my 859 di transducer.  I was told that there is one for a trolling motor. If so what is it? Im headed to Eufaula, Al to do the swap. I hope its worth the drive. Im only 80 miles away from Hummingbird.

The benefit is it is shaped to fit the trolling motor and has shielding to reduce interference. Less likely to get damaged too. Bob

In addition to what bobcoy mentioned...

The stock XNT 9 DI T is ...455kHz 16°/200kHz 25° 2d cones ...and 455kHz 75°/200kHz 45° DI slices...

The XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T is ...83kHz 60°/200kHz 20° 2d cones...and 455kHz 75°/200kHz 45° DI slices...

In addition there is an XTM 9 DI 25 T It has the same values at the transom transducer. I have no idea which one is best under differing fishing situations. Maybe someone can shed some light on this. Bob

Bob,
It just gets back to what 2D sonar frequencies you want to use and/or how wide of a sonar beam you want.  You could run the 200/455kHz version at the 455kHz frequency to try and avoid sonar cross-talk with another unit that is using 200kHz 2D sonar or opt for the increased 2D sonar coverage of the 83kHz 2D sonar on the WIDE version DI transducer.

Kountrykool,
I think I missed you when you came by to swap the transducer earlier today.  Sorry but I was stuck in a meeting at the time.
