Where is best spot to mount SI transducer on my John boat? Would location of current transducer work? I feel like the lower unit is going to cause interference.
-
Your definitely gonna have some left SI blockage....
Can you tilt the motor up while scanning ...??
There is the option of running 2 SI xducers with the AS SILR Y cable...
Left SI would come from the left HDSI xducer...
Right SI, 2d, and Temp would come from the right HDSI xducer...

Would that cause me to have 2 ft. gap between the DI images or would the DI come from 1 transducer only? How far do you think I would have to tilt the motor. Does the whole transducer need to be clear of the lower unit?
-
The DI in the SI units is a computer generated blend of the data received from the SI piezoes...
The gap between a left and right HDSI xducer with the AS SILR Y cable would not be descernable in any of the views...

Ahh! Got me while I was editing. How far do you think I would have to tilt the motor. Does the whole transducer need to have a clear line of view?
-
Is there any boat modification I could make to get transducer lower in the water column?
-
You would have to tilt the motor away from the hull at least seven inches (at the same height that the transducer is), so you would need 7 inches between the lower unit and the transom.
The Si piezos run almost the entire length of the transducer and are in the sides of the transducer, so “Yes” on the clear line of sight for the whole transducer.
I know of no boat modification that would allow the transducer to be low enough in the water column without also exposing it more to possible damage from striking a rock, tree or something that may destroy it.

I think I can tilt it enough, but no power trim >:(

OK, I got the clearance I needed but here is my new issue. If I place XDUCER between the 2 strakes on the portside, Im only 12 inches from prop. Is that going to be to close (manual says 15 in.)? If that doesnt work, where would next best spot be? Between farthest strake and edge of boat but not as far out as the current XDUCER?

why not try a test where the old xducer is mounted first. If I'm not mistaking, the motor you have has several set holes for tilt in the motor. Lock your pin in the hole that gives you the clearance you need and run the test to see if you have interference. Then go from there instead of drilling new holes. Just a thought

Had a few guys awhile back in a different post say they thought if I place XDUCER @ current location that turbulence could be an issue.

Could see what they mean with the corner. But in looking at the photo I see that mid point puts you inline with the bunker rail. More to the right puts you inline with your tie down and can see stringers mid ways of those....a regular mine field ;D
May be worth a shot to test it there first...never know it may be just fine. If not, re-mount. good luck
