Title: New H'birds
Post by: zdriver on December 12, 2013, 07:28:02 PM
Has anyone purchased or know someone who has tried the new ION or  ONIX series?  Lots of $$$$ for one, but they sure do look awesome..

Hello, proceedings of the Paris Boat Show (I could go despite a train strike, the French specialty!) It is clear that this attraction is very pleasant to use (note even if the trimmings are even the access and the interface is completely different, require little training).
This is actually a big improvement model is a sea trial, I attentd first results.
Sea user for me is the missing product to go hunt the fish on deep  wreck!
 A nice tool!

Does anyone know if the new all-in-one ONIX SI-DI transponder is compatible with older units?  If so, how much of an improvement in signal will it provide?

Normaly Onix and ION are not compatible with old Humminbird, I have ask at boat show in Paris because of my towfish is done with electronic card of a 998 in a waterproof box with SI/DI transducer and use with Eternet, but cannot be use with new one. FOr DI it is tell work to more than 100m deep SI more than 50m. (not test yet!! ;D)

We just do not know yet Nitro...

Bill Carson's setup (that I linked above) ...is the only released images thus far...

The prostaff don't even have the new ION and ONIX yet...(the link to bbcforums in post#2 by JDX reveal image posts by Doug V ...but the images were taken by Bill's setup)...

Here's Bills other post at THT...
http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/555370-humminbird-onix.html (http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/555370-humminbird-onix.html)

We (as consumers) would hope that this new "All In One"' digital xducer would be ground breaking...but "digital Transducer" doesn't even get many hits when Googled...

This is about the only info I can find about "digital transducer"....and it's by Biosonics...not HB...
http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/login.jsp?reload=true&tp=&arnumber=725776&url=http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpls/abs_all.jsp?arnumber=725776 (http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/login.jsp?reload=true&tp=&arnumber=725776&url=http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpls/abs_all.jsp?arnumber=725776)

I have no idea if HB's new xducer has any characteristics similar to Biosonics...

I've also searched "digital transducer" thru Google Patents and can find no such item as granted a patent yet...

I finally found a patent on "digital sonar transducer"...

It is not registered to HB but it could shed light on the possible functionality of the new "All In One" ONIX digital xducer....

http://www.google.com/patents/US6667934 (http://www.google.com/patents/US6667934)

Interestingly....clicking on the inventor's name (Robert W. Healy)...leads to this patent invention by the same man...

http://www.google.com/patents/US6377515?dq=ininventor:%22Robert+W.+Healey%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=UdexUpvTE6ibygGPhIHYBA&ved=0CD8Q6AEwAQ (http://www.google.com/patents/US6377515?dq=ininventor:%22Robert+W.+Healey%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=UdexUpvTE6ibygGPhIHYBA&ved=0CD8Q6AEwAQ)

Synchronized sonar....which can be applied to separate xducer's within close proximity ...and also separate piezoes within close proximity...

The speed on the 1 DI image was indeed discussed at length at the bbcforums...

It was determined that image (and maybe a few others) were marketing images...where the image was a true DI image but the data was Photoshopped...

I agree it's very unrealistic to get that good of a DI image going that fast...
