Title: HELP QUESTION
Post by: stillbear on January 29, 2010, 03:03:56 PM
I have a platinum #10 region card in my 997 when I zoom in on my lakes what are red and green colored markers on the water for? How do you use them? There is nothing in my books. I called HB support she did not know either.  THANKS GARY

stillbear,

I do not have my card yet, but are the red and green colored markers in a diamond pattern and are they in line?  Is it possible they are marking a channel?

I dont have the map but I agree with George.  Normal navigations (in the USA) are a USCG regulation and as such the colors are restricted. So I would agree that they are navigation. Channel markers. Red Starboard is the return path with the green on the Port side.  This keeps you in the channel.  From my dealings with the markers is dont violate the correct side of the boat. Often these markers are on the very edge of the channel which says if you get on the wrong side you may ground. Center mrkers are numbered or alphabetic letters. And are orange with a light on the top.  Can you send a picture thru snapshop.  Chuck

Here is a Navionics Platinum User's Guide that may help a little.  Its for Raymarine, but should be the same.

Gary,

From what I have observed Navionics as would be expected follows the normal navigation icons and rules of the road.
A saying to help remember which side the buoys are on is "Red Right Returning", meaning that when returning to port the Red buoy will be on your right and the black buoy will be on your left if you are coming down the channel.
