Since i have had my units the image quality has always been poor. it came with 6.610 on it and still has 6.610 on it and the start of the serial is 1304 so it was manufactured in april 13. i have been told that i shouldnt go to a previous software than what the unit came with, is this true because i really want to go to 6.490. i dont run ipilot or anything. only two 998c si's with ethernet 2 Precision gps modules, 2 si ducers and 1 shoot through no si ducer. also i am getting that pc connect screen when i power up to fast, but i dont think theres a fix for that at the moment and i have learned a great lesson in patience haha. any input would be great if i shouldnt go back a recommendation of what software to go to would be great.
thanks alot guys

Some are getting pretty good images with the newest release.....just seem to be some remaining issues at low scroll speeds and with 83Khz on the 2d....I would try updating first.....
Going backwards from the release that came with the unit might void the warranty?

By latest you are referring to 6.740 correct? If so I will give it a try I just have heard so many terrible things about it. Also are you able to put a few different levels of updates on one SIM card so that if one is just terrible You can change it while on the lake. Basically can you chose between multiple files on a sim card with your humminbird.

Yes to the 6.74......I would only put one update per card.
Make sure you have the unit completely started up before doing the update. I think they are also now recommending disconnecting all accessories except the I-pilot link and 360 when doing the update.
For a while they were recommending saving your waypoints and then deleting them from the unit prior to updating.
Maybe Greg will check in and give us a complete set of update recommendations.

Sounds good man, i only have 2 sd cards so ill just load up 6.740 and 6.610 to the other just in case. ill be out of town tomorrow through Sunday on a new lake so I'm not sure if ill have Internet for my computer yet so hopefully one works. So unplugs the transducer, GPS and Ethernet or just GPS and Ethernet
Thanks man

Personally I would unplug everything except for the power – just to be sure (unless I had the iPilot connected, then I would leave it connected).
I always recommend saving your Nav Data to your computer as it is a good opportunity to back that data up as well as clean up any waypoints and all that you don’t want. Erase it from the unit so you can reload it later without the chance of making duplicate waypoints.
While you are updating the software do not make any changes, flip any switches or otherwise touch any wiring on the boat or (whatever power source you are using) as this could cause irreparable damage to the unit.

Sounds good. If I end up going back in software from what my units came with. Does that void warranty?

2 other questions if you don't mind:
1) when you put the ad card in your graph does it move the download file or does it copy it? Basically if I update one graph will the download file still be on the sd card so that I can update the second graph?
2) I've been told that the updates for the 998c si are the same as the updates for the 998 si hd. Is this true ?

1. The Bin file is an install file and will still be on the card.
2. Yes

Not that I am aware of but you should check with the Humminbird Customer Resource folks to be sure. Just make sure you do not load a software version that is older than what the unit was originally produced with.
Bob B nailed your other questions.
