Title: *** HumViewer release 44 ***
Post by: mrj9600 on January 27, 2010, 03:31:35 PM
Hi All
I just released a new version of the HumViewer program. The new release is called 44.

After a long period of having too little time and too much to do, I have finally got the time to make a few changes. I have probably forgot a lot of the features that I have promised you all in the past, but remind me and I might find time to implement them.

The new release can be downloaded from: http://humviewer.cm-johansen.dk (http://humviewer.cm-johansen.dk)

If you have any problems with the new release, then write a precise bug description in this thread and I will try to help you.

/Martin

The release notes for the new release is as follows:
****************************************************************************************************
Version 44 (Release date 27-01-10 21:01)
-Installation of HumViewer program now done via setup.exe. Uninstall included.
-Desktop shortcut and Program group is created by setup.
-First (temp) version of icon and splash.bmp included.
-Version numbering changed to use versioning commit number

-Position offset (boat and towfish) can be configured
-Configure units to show for speed, depth and position
-Bugfix: Gridline in zoom window was not positioned correctly
-Bugfix: If opening a new record after being in Quadrabeam mode, the menu stated the program was still in Quadrabeam mode but actually
 it was in SI mode.
-Bugfix: Waypoints and tracks was not always shown in track windows (was out of the range of the window).
-Recording start time added to title bar.
-Time added to left side details information.
-Bugfix: Lat/lon and depth shown in 'Enter waypoint name' dialog was wrong.
-Bugfix: In very large recordings, position info in status field stopped working.

great work Martin.   Install went without any trouble and into the folder I wanted. ran some old files (recordings) and looks real good.

OK.  wish list 1)  can we get a gps display in a degree with 5 position decimal format. (36.12345  078.12345)   I set the display to deg but the decimal was about 16 positions long.

Thanks and the wish is not to distract from the fine work on the new release.
you guys are fantistic.

???? Whaaat???

HumViewer is an absolute must if you have a SI unit.
I would even state that you missed THE greatest app for your Humminbird.
Humviewer is a program to watch your HB recordings on your PC.

Download and play around with it. I promise, you'll love it!

Regards and prepare to be amazed

Martin,

Runs okay, but windows7 pc AMD64 has a heavy job on it.
When linking to Google eart, huwviewer expects it in it's own directory.
How can I change this to programfiles/google/clients?
This used to be ok in the past

Regarding google earth, you just need to go to the google earth installation directory and select the googleearth.exe application once. Next time the HumViewer program remembers the path.

What do you mean by Windows 7 AMD64 having a heavy job ?

Google wasn't found the first 3 times, but now it is :-)

System is working full load and heating up when building the GPS track.
Javaw.exe is eating 70% processor capacity on a 1 hour track.

Is it using 70% CPU load all the time or only when building the GPS track ?
If it is using high amount of CPU while building the GPS track it is ok (basically just means there is much to do). But if it is doing it all the time there might be something that I need to look into.

It is using that much when building the track and when viewing it at a speed of 20
with 2d downview, trackplot  and 455kHZ SI on.

Great work Martin, thanks again!

Regarding the previous reply: I don't think downimage is that easy to display, it is in my opinion a software trick and not a separate recording like a .son file.

Cheers,

well low and behold I was able to get this going and look at the footage. Now my questions are regarding visual quality. When I looked at my footage it seems to be just a little blurry but not blurry. I 'm guessing that I need to run more footage.
Is there some adjustments that are possible to make seeing different items a little clearer?  Thanks and as a newby I'm inching myself along. ;D

Randy

There is a speed control on the top right also you can put your cursor over the scroll and hold the control button and move acrossed the scoll, this will move you thru your recording.

Also on top is a sundry of controls to help get the most out of Humviewer and your recordings.  If your recordings are blurry then it might be that you are going to fast when recording or that there is a lot of junk in the water.  You will need to play with it.

Martin,

I will again add my voice to all of the others cheering your efforts and raising a big "Thanks"! Everything you have done is terriffic.

If it is technically possible I would ask if you could add display of the recording's date at some future release to the time you have now displayed. It would be very useful to those of us in the S&R fields for documenting the information being viewed.

George, I was thinking it was what was recorded and not what I was seeing. I recorded some footage one day when the Ohio River was on a severe rise. The water was really rolling. On my recording I can see willows that are normally on the bank but with the high water they are in 20' of water. I can see what looks like fish but is actually trash/debris that is snagged on the submerged willows.
My boat speed is in the 2-4mph range but the water is smoking fast. Do you think that could cause clarity problems?
On the hummviewer should I leave the depth on 'all' or set it to the depth of the water that is showing on the left in the information area?
Thanks and I'm still inching along.
Randy
Title: Re: *** HumViewer release 44 ***
Post by: Jolly Roger on January 30, 2010, 01:59:29 PM
Randy,

usually I leave the side range setting to "all" in the lower range (max. depth) to see the full picture of the BOTTOM I have recorded. I set the upper range to 5 metres less than the waterdepth ( i.e: max WATER depth = 20 metres  ---> upper range = 15 metres). This will stretch the picture a bit, becaues the first 15 metres of the water column aren't displayed. This enables me to see and find details on the bottom. The watercolumn isn't much of interest to me, ' cause I use the unit for wreck /structure finding and not to see fish.

If I see something interresting, I switch the range settings to get the object enlarged, i.e. I see something in 30 m on the left side of the recording, I change the view to see just left side and set the range to 25m in the left range window and to 35 or 40 m in the right range window. Then I can measure it a bit easier and more precise with the "measure lenght/distance" funtion in the utilities.

Hope this helps
Harry

Hi
You need to write some more details about what happens when you try to open the .dat file in humviewer. Do you see any error on the screen on something ?
In the log directory you should have a debug.log file. Please email that to humviewer@cm-johansen.dk then I will take look at it.

no probem to install.
when i click on humviewer icon, i've got the right image of the software, and details , settings, etc....

my file named R00002 (.DAT) contains a short side imaging tracking .
then i choose it ,and it 's written ( at the bottom ):

" humviewer is searching for R0002.DAT ..... " since yesterday evening.  and the screen stays white(without informations) all the cells with datas are empty.  as if  the software doesn't find anything.    rather strange....

i tried many times: loosing effort.

"Do you see any error on the screen on something ?"     no, there's no error message.

Thanks in advance for help

pascal,

Are you copying all the files over to your computer.  In the RECORD folder there will be a file R0002.DAT and also a folder named R0002.  You also need to copy this folder over to your computer.  It actually holds the .SON sonar recording files.

Good Luck,

Robert

Hi
In the directory where you installed the HumViewer program (e.g. C:\Program Files\HumViewer\) there is a sub-directory called log.
In that directory you should have a file called debug.log, that is the one that I want you to email to me.

Hi Pascal
From the error that I can see in the debug.log file, I think that you have the R00002.DAT file in the same directory as the Bxxx.idx and Bxxx.son files.
The files must be copied to your harddisk following the same structure as on the SD card. I.e. the .DAT file must be in the parent directory, like this:
R00002.DAT
R00002\B001.IDX
R00002\B001.SON
R00002\B002.IDX
R00002\B002.SON
R00002\B003.IDX
R00002\B003.SON

Could that be the problem ?

Hi Martin,

when my sd card was inserted in my computer, i only copied the file which was on this sd card and didn't make any change at all. The copy is on my  computer desk , not on my hard disk.

more over, i did the same thing to read on yellowfin and deepview softwares(after conversion in HBSI sonar file converter) and i got  nice results.

to be continued.
good night.

When you copy files from the SD card onto onto your computer desk (desktop) it is actually putting the files onto the hard drive, unless I am misunderstanding your comments.

hello george,

i know the desktop is linked with the hard disk. the words i used to explain (in a post before) mean  that in france, we use the word : "glisser"(it's a way of copying but not really one), and there's no specific translation about it.

thus it's pretty hard to explain after that  and that's why i use the word "copy" .

Hi everybody,

eureka ! i found the solution at....past midnight.

According to advices some of you gave to me, especially Martin, i decided to check every step after having extracted my sd card from my humminbird sonar.

Fortunately, i had kept the  concerned recording file in my sd card:
it appears like this:
one datafile called R0002   which contains :
-one .DAT file
-many .IDX and .SON files.

i "copied" it on my desktop but humviewer was enable to read the  .DAT because it was inside the complete date file(R0002).
As Martin said,  i have to separate (i know ilt's rather strange but it was not the case on my hard disk !!) the .DAT file from complete R0002.

Indeed the bug dissapeared . From that time,  the reading became possible and i really appreciate it.

For my part, humviewer is a very good alternative and complementar using  with yellowfin and deepview softwares.

Great thanks .

Hi Bob
No, the release 44 cannot shown down imaging. From the discussion here, and some simple initial tries I have made. It will come in the future (but not the next release).

For now I have decided not to put time into implementing the mosaic feature.
