Title: 898 possible problem????
Post by: calli1 on September 08, 2013, 05:08:46 PM
Another problem i'm afraid.  My question is.....when I started to hook up my new 898 ...for a short time..the unit recognized to some degree a transducer but it won't anymore...no temp either.  And this is in my yard..not on water.  I have taken connector separately along with power wire and thought it may be loose connectio.  Any suggestions...looks like I will be calling cust service monday with yet another issue and unit has not even been in the water yet.  Problem #3 since I opened the box.......

Well...got to thinking...I have a 1198 unit...so I took it from the console to the front...plugged in the power, gps and transducer wires.....everything works fine so that tells me...my BRAND NEW 898 unit is heading to Eufaula Alabama Monday morning....unit has not even been on the water and only in my hands for 4 days....pretty sad.  I plan to call back to customer service at the Bird Monday early just to make sure but when one unit will work with transducer and other won't and they are both the same transducers...tells me it is the unit head.

Check your pins on the transducer side connector. You might need to "spread" them a part a little to make better contact.
