On the HB support site for my unit, it lists V. 6.640 as the latest update for my older unit. I downloaded it and installed it. Now my temp gage is 25 degrees too cold and the ranges for the GPS switch randomly. Is this the correct update for my unit? I looked at the current updates on this site for my unit and it shows V. 6.600 as the latest available for this unit.
PS- When I have the card with the update on it installed at power up, it asks if I want to perform the update. Is this because the original update didn't complete, or is this just not compatible with this unit even though the HB website shows it's the most current available update for this unit?

Yes, at this time 6.640 is the latest update for a HB1197.

A 1197 on power-up will ask you if you wish to upgrade, if it detects a SD-card with the upgrade on it. It is not because a update completed or not.
1197 update procedure was changed. You should on a running unit, do a Restore Defaults, then insert the Update SD-Card and perform the update. After the reboot, remove the SD-card and do another Restore Defaults.

IMHO, the HB 6.640/6.680 software update is more for 360-Imaging/AS-GPS-HS(highspeed directional GPS puck). I like 6.640 on my 1197. It worked OK only if Chart-Speed was set a 1 or 2. Worse 2D I've ever experienced as Chart-Speed increased. I'm currently on 6.310.

I thought about this some more. If the unit is at 6.640 and you leave the 6.640 update SD-card in the unit during power-up, it should inform you that you are already on that level.
Access the Self Test screen to see your running software level:
First: <menu><menu>, select Views Tab, scroll & set Self Test = VISIBILE.
Then: Use View or Exit button to access the Self Test screen.
