Title: I GIVE UP! Depth reading at speed
Post by: wdcon on January 25, 2010, 01:56:56 PM
In another post " Why is side imaging so dark " there are pics. of Quadrabeam installation on aluminum transom.  I have moved this up / down , tilted up and down and cannot get this to read depth at speed, around 40mph.  I feel the Quadrabeam has too much mass and causes turbulance that interfers with speed reading capability.

My Question / idea;  Thinking of getting a xfm 9 20 ( a plastic thru hull )transducer and hooking it to a AS SIDB Y side imaging splitter cable and the other cable lead to the HDSI transducer and then hook this to one of the leads from my Transducer selector switch.  The other lead from the Transducer selector switch will go to the Quadrabeam transducer.  Then the switch goes up to the 997csi electronics.

You guys think this has a chance of working?

I don't know if the QB transducer works with the 997, but from the cable set up I would say it works.

I am sure that Quadra Beam works with the 997 unit.  I have one on my 1197, and it does not work very well at high speed.  As far as I know only the 2D works at high speed.

Thanks George.  I just could not get the Quadrabeam adjusted to read above planing speed.  Thinking about leaving it on for slow speed use and installing the HB XFM 9 20  thru hull transducer.  Just hate to put a 2" hole in the hull!

wdcon,

You may want to play with the SI beam and the QuadraBeam with the screen on 2d or split screens to see which one works best when you are on plane.

Now as goofy as this sounds, I have waxed the bottoms of my transducers and approximately 2 feet in front of the transducers on the hull with carnauba wax.  I think this helps the water pass around transducers with less turbulence. Don't really know if this will help, but I did see some improvement.
