While reviewing a saved snapshot on my 1197....
I can mark a waypoint of my boat position.....by pressing the "Mark" button...
But how do I activate the "active cursor" to mark a waypoint somewhere else on the snapshot screen...??
Pressing the cursor button just scrolls thru the saved snapshot images....

You cannot mark additional waypoints from a snapshot. When you took the snapshot it marked a waypoint at the current boat position.
If you would have moved the cursor over the target in live mode, you could have taken a snapshot that would have marked the cursor point. If you are recording, it will mark the waypoint but cannot save the snapshot.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Robert...
Just to be sure I understand correctly.......
This question only pertains to reviewing snapshots and recordings on the 1197 unit itself (for example in the garage after I get home).....
I cannot mark and save a waypoint while reviewing snapshots and/or recordings...??

Correct, you cannot mark a waypoint when viewing snapshots.
But, you CAN mark a waypoint when playing back a recording. It will also make a snapshot when you hit the mark button if you have this enabled while viewing the recording, just like you were in the live mode.

Thanks again Robert....
Now that I have that straight in my head......
Does one of the 3rd party softwares allow marking a waypoint from snapshot...??
-
No, the snapshot is just an image of the history shown on the screen. Even if the image were georeferenced and the boat speed was consistent and you made no turns, the waypoint just would not be as accurate. Every ping has GPS data, speed, heading, etc associated with it, you would have to store all this info in each line of the image file as well to mark the waypoint and it would just be too big in the end.
The snapshot is nothing more than a screencapture!

Thanks Robert...
That is simple enough even for me to understand.... ;D
