Do you know of anyone else with a Humminbird Si unit (any model)? Try cross-testing your Si unit with theirs.
-
i am going to try 6.18

Why bother with up grades?
Hope for a better working machine.

I bought a new AC unit this summer and installed the new update from the manufacturer. When the AC unit stopped cooling - the dealer suggested that I swap my unit out with a friend who had the same unit that was cooling. It is the new wave in modern troubleshooting.
-
Danco,
Cross testing your unit on another boat helps point out where the problems is: in the unit or on your boat. If the problem is on the boat there are additional troubleshooting steps that are involved.
-
Greg. I agree. Unit works fine - customer installs software update - unit fails. It might be a problem with? Easy solution actually - don't install software updates until everyone else has worked out the bugs. Usually about 3 to 6 months.
-
Danco:
My rule is 2 months.
Look for gripes over the internet of the update
you are thinking of installing. If everything is cool for
2 months, then it must be safe.:)
Updates are at the user's own risk!
Humminbird does not guarantee the updates
to be error free.
And,
They only suggest updating if a user is having
problems with their unit.
The biggest problem is if a user gets a new accessory and
has to update to use that accessory, and the update
has errors. Then, they are in bad shape.

The problems in this update are a little different than anything I have seen before. Normally, there are pretty much universal complaints about a software bug, in this case some people are reporting great results with the updates and other people can demonstrate significant problems. :-\ It probably has to do with some variable like certain networking setups or transducer sharing variables.
I imagine HB is having a very difficult time figuring this out if they can't reliably reproduce the problem.
I do agree with Greg, I have seen a lot of times that 2 things coincide .....maybe a software update was done, but other things go wrong also.....could be the transducer cable was also damaged, a battery started to fail, a loose cable connection., etc. Testing on another boat (if available) is an easy way to make SURE where the problem is.
-
Exactly. You put your unit on another boat and problem still exists, its your head unit. And vice versa, someone tries their unit on your boat (if it works properly before trying on your boat) and their unit has the same problem then its not in the head units its something else.
-
the unit came back with 6.6 loaded, however in the mean time i had to get another unit 1198 on 6.6 but they will not talk to each other , if i put the transducers on the 1197, it will work however it runs slow
-
Is this the 6.640 update.
Just curious cause shortly after update on my 598 is when the screen went pixely and this unit was purchased in July.
what's up?

This is disheartening towards HB. Especially with all the other problems I see on here and other sites. Should I ask for my money back?
-
I probably wont but man after hearing all this it makes me wonder.

Stick with us...
We have to remember that HB owners that don't have any problems ....have no reason to post...
We only hear of the problem cases...
But that's why we're here....to work these problems out together...
