Title: some info for 998/958 interference problems
Post by: jimmythegreek on July 22, 2013, 05:37:19 PM
Just wanted to share a successful interference fix.  Last year I got a 998cSI and had a little interference w the SI and my terrova Ipilot, after reading on here some ferrite rings and another pc11 choke and its perfiect w noise filter on off.  In april got a second boat and got a 958HD to replace the 595 on the bow.  I use the units in both boats and the new bigger boat has no issues at all, was pre filtered/choked just in case when I rigged it.  Anyway the little boat had TONS of interfecrence on even the 2D w teh 958 OR the 998 or the old 595.  After trying a million things it turns out to be the connector on the US2 that adapts to humminbird, the metal threaded sleeve that tightens it made the inside guts spin and cause it.  When leaving it loose if you twisted teh shielding it would get worst or go away depending on twist.  New US2 adapter for humminbird is replaced, and its perfect now in the little boat.  I even had noise pop onto the console unit w a transom ducer from this, so check ur connector if you have interference jsut to eliminate this possibility
