Title: Map software questions
Post by: spes on July 09, 2013, 08:01:18 PM
Hello,
I just purchased Navionics MSD/NAV+NI software for my 798 and have a few questions. I haven't finished downloading!!!

1) Will all my waypoints on my SD card show up when I plug in the new map card?
2) Where are future waypoints and recordings stored? On the SD card or the Navionics SD card?

Thanks,
Mike

1.  Your waypoints are stored in the unit..unless you back them up to an SD card.  If you back them up they would still be in the unit unless you delete them.
The waypoints are displayed as a "overlay" or another layer which is displayed over the map display, they are not part of the map itself.  They will show up on whatever map chip you put in the unit as long as it is compatable with your 798.  I am not familiar with the map software you mentioned.

2. Future waypoints will be stored in the unit unless deleted....just as the old ones are.
Recordings are a separate matter.  The recordings are written directly to an SD card as you record.  You should do your recordings to a separate formatted SD card....don't try to record them to your map chips.

Will the unit know which card to record on? Or do you have to tell it?

It should figure it out......there is a write protect tab on an SD card.  Make sure your map chip is write protected so you can't accidentally try to write to it.

This video will show you how to write protect.  How to Repair the Write Protect on an SD card (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_XkvkHDveo#ws)
