Went out to the lake today and my gps was not working - powered the unit(s) up a few times ....... nothing.

I looked on the main unit (898) and the GPS description was grey (instead of black).

Checked all connections - everything was ok.

unplugged and re-plugged connections at the back of the head unit ....... nothing.

Re-set defaults ............ nothing ................ now the GPS tab is gone.

Not sure what to do next ............

I have an extra puck - should I try it on another unit (just at the dash) before I take apart half my boat to re-wire (replace) the GPS puck.

Any help would be appreciated ...........

Yes, I would test the second GPS Receiver on a unit that is easier to access before permanently installing it.

Tried another receiver (puck) and it worked fine.

Pulled out the old one and re-installed the new one out of the box from one of mt 858's. Because I purchased 3 head units, I have 3 receivers so after trashing the one that does not work - I still have a spare on board.

Unfortunately I had to cut the wire off the old broken one as they were neatly installed with zip ties and buried in my wire chase on the boat - so there will be no exchange ..... lol.

Funny how things only a few months old crap out sometimes ........... is this a common thing a guy should keep on board as a spare (like a transducer)? I was really surprised to have this receiver fail so early ........

I do not think it's common for gps receivers
 to go bad.
It's an electronic device, and sometimes, they
 just have problems.

				+1 to what ITG said.
