Title: GPS refresh rate
Post by: ad11583c on July 06, 2013, 10:28:53 PM
I currently have the AS GR50 GPS puck and am thinking to upgrade to the AS GPS HS puck.  It looks like the AS GPS HS updates 5 times a second.  Does anyone know the update rate for the GR50?  Will I see a performance improvement in the GPS other than just getting a heading sensor?

I believe the GR50 updates at 4 times per second.

I too remember 4 times per second, but:
According to the Humminbird GPS product manual (531478-4_B),
the following GPS receivers update at 5 times per second:
AS GR16, AS GR50, AS GRP, AS GPS HS

I feel it may be a moot point...

I think I remember that the head unit will only update the chart at 1 time per second...

That’s the NMEA Output rate Rickie but I think that it is a moot point anyways.  Would you notice the difference between a 4x or 5x GPS output rate?  I think not.

ad11583c, probably the only improvement you will see are the additional Heading Sensor capabilities of the GPS-HS.
