Title: DI question
Post by: hgv on May 29, 2013, 04:30:57 PM
I have the 789 SI and have the transducer that came with it mounted on the transom and it works great. I added a thru hull transducer and a Y cable so that I can read the bottom at higher speed than I can with the transom mount due to it coming out of the water.  With this setup does it mean that the 2D sonar always comes from the thru hull transducer?

Wondering if the system picks between the transom mount and the thru hull via the Y cable.

Also as long as any of the transducers are in the water while moving at any speed then I should be able to get SI, DI and 2D, right?

The AS SIDB Y cable physically reroutes the wires in the cable...

The 2d signal comes from the "shoot thru hull" xducer..
The SI and TEMP come from the HDSI xducer...

The unit recognises this as 1 xducer so there is no menu changes to use the Y cable...

Also ....as the SI and DI beams are very thin front to back (slices)... And the image is rendered by "stacking" these slices of data on top of each other to "build" the display image....images are better gained at slow to idle speeds with the chart speed matching the boat speed...

Images can be had at faster speeds...but they tend to seem not as detailed..
