I am building a portable bracket for my XHS-9-HDSI-180 T transducer out of an old electric trolling motor. It will give me tilt adjustments in both directions and protect it. After removing the "guts" and cutting out the bottom and sides high enough for full clearance, the internal dimensions are perfect. Except - the transducer would be backwards. I am not sure, but I suspect it shouldn't matter which direction it travels?
I got the idea from a towfish post where he recessed the transducer up into the PCV body for protection. When completed, I can take my unit and transducer "bracket" on other boats. Even on my little boat with two motors there is no unobstructed view off the transom. I can clamp it to the side and adjust as needed.

Sure. As soon as I finish it and make sure it works well I will post. The hardest part so far was finding an old trolling motor with motor body length long enough for a 6" transducer.

I had one of those days when the brain and hands worked well together! Here is what I have to date. Haven't figured out what to do for the top/handle, yet. The temp button has plenty of room for water movement around it, so that should not be a problem. Make sure there are no sharp edges where the cable goes up into the main shaft. I added SS brackets at the joints and used a 1/4" SS bolt with a locking nut through the motor body and existing transducer housing holes.
If I had to do this over, I would have looked for a larger diameter motor housing. This one was a MinnKota 35 from the 1980s with a 2.5" diameter aluminum and steel motor housing (no plastic).

The mounting "ears" on the HDSI housing are on the front for a reason....
There is a "left SI crystal" and a "right SI crystal" in the HDSI xducer that send their individual reflection data to the processor so that the processor knows which side of the SI image to display which echos...
Mounting the HDSI xducer with the mounting "ears" to the rear will make your echo targets display on the wrong side of the SI image...
Structure and fish on the left side of your boat would be displayed on the right side of the SI display image....

Thank you. Good to know for my next project. On this one, all I have to do is swival 180 degrees and all should be good.

Swiveling the unit 180° will work fine...
