Title: Best update for 998c SI

I have 5.7 on it now and no accessories except GPS Puck.  Should I update to higher number?

Only persons who have a 998c, and Humminbird are going to know
anything about what update numbers exist.

My suggestion is to first find out every update number after 5.7 (if there are any).
You may have to call Humminbird Customer service to find out.

Then search the forums for problems with each one.
I would proceed with caution on updating if I didn't
have to.
If you have a good working unit, that all could change in a
second with a bad update.

Thanks, want to know which is bug free.  Too many errors in coding in later updates.  As I said I have no accessories.

I have a 998 with 5.70 installed. No issues other than the image quality is slowly degrading.
I don't think that it is software related. Tried upgrading to 6.18 but unit didn't function properly,
so went back to 5.70.

I don't recall the specific problems I had as it was quite a while ago.
It was enough that I ask HB Greg to send me a copy of 5.70 which he was gracious enough to do.
I know 998's are running the newer software with no problems, but mine isn't one of them.
The functions that I use, work on 5.70. I'm half afraid to update now as I don't want to have to return it for repair.
My unit is one of the older units (mfg Feb. '10) and maybe, although the model numbers haven't changed, the internal circuitry has.

Updated to 5.410-- OK
Updated to 5.700-- OK
Updated to 6.18-- Not so good---- Back to 5.700--OK
