I have the navionics PC (navionics world) program that allows me to mark the lake I fish with fish points. Is it possible to upload that map to the 798 so I can view these points on depth finder?
-
No, you cannot upload the map but you may be able to upload the waypoints. I do not use this program so I do not know what its “Save As…” or export options are.
-
the navionics program gives the option to "save to card" , then you pick Humminbird, then is gives you a "Humminbird combined WPs and Routes" option and a "GPX (GPS exchange) format" option
Clicking on the first option creates a file with .hwr extension the second gives a .gpx option.
I tried the first option .hwr put it on the second memory card on the depth finder but could not seem to load it
Any ideas?

Humminbird units expect the waypoints file to be in a folder called "MATRIX". If you didn't do so already, create a folder called MATRIX at the root of your memory card and move the .HWR file into it.
Matt
edit: if the above doesn't work, try the GPX option. You can't load a GPX file directly into your HB unit, but you can load the GPX file into Humminbird PC and upload to an SD card from there. Create your GPX file using the Navionics program, open Humminbird PC and file/open -> select the GPX file you just made. You can insert an SD card into your PC slot and select "upload" in HBPC.

That is what the first option did, that is it created a "matrix" folder and put the .hwr file there. How would you load the file on the Humminbird?
-
Ah OK - then I'm stumped. All you should need to do to load the points into your unit is insert the card, then hit "yes" when it prompts you to ask whether or not you'd like to import the nav data. I'd try the second suggestion I made above (GPX file -> HPBC -> unit), to rule out any issues with the Navionics software and the HWR file.

hgv,
When you installed the SD card with the *.HWR file, did you do this before or after the unit was running? Depending on the software version you have in your unit you may have to do this after the unit has powered on and started working.

put the memory card in then powered up

worked that time, it loaded a bunch of points. wish it would load the map which shows all the points at once.
