I have a 998C SI. The left side display is much darker than the right side display in side imaging mode. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Welcome to the Side Imaging Forums rcon1268 (first time poster)!
This could be due to several things but is normally due to a partial blockage of the left Si sonar. Is this a new installation or did this just start happening?
Next time out, try trimming up the motor and see if that helps or makes no difference at all. If no difference, than try posting some pictures of the overall transom area of your boat. We will need to see a few pictures from the right side looking left across your transom and at a low transducer level.

rcon1268....I have the same problem. Mine is mounted on the drivers side and my 2d is on the opposite side of the boat. I know my S I transducer is picking up my 2s transducer but I really have no other place to go. Mine is on a decent size aluminum boat. Mine doesn't pick up the motor at all. Now...when I increase my speed a little...the right side display on my screen is good and clear and the left side is very dark about half way out as well as I'm picking up my 2d ducer. I have thought about moving my S I Ducer closer to the middle of the boat just to one side or the other to when the motor would be trimmed all the way down and not hitting the ducer with motor. Otherwise...my unit works great. I see better on right side for sure but see decently well on the left side but increased speed means decrease in coverage and detail.

I am a little confused with this..... don't see why an increase in speed would make much difference..... Unless you are talking about approaching planing speeds.....
There has to be something happening otherwise IMHO ..... Motor torque changing hull roll (would have to be significant).... OR ???
Definitely makes one want to go out and try different scenarios..... slower... faster.... port...starboard.....trim up.... trim.... :-\ :-\ :P
These anomalies are interesting in an engineering aspect BUT most of us don't really want to ponder such things.... we spent our money hoping that was all figured out 'beforehand'..... ::) ???

With a single occupant in the drivers seat it's very possible that the boat could be listing to starboard...causing the left SI beam to shoot more skyward....causing darkness in the outer edges of the left SI image...
You might try arranging some weight around in the boat for experimenting with this possibility ...
